In dependson=c("try1", "try2", "tr圓") the value c("try1", "try2", "tr圓") is a vector of character strings, the vector being made using R function c.įor a complete example using cache and dependson see the notes on Markov chain Monte Carlo and the Rmarkdown for that. In dependson="try1" the value "try1" is the name of a code chunk, so it is a character string. For example, in cache=TRUE the value TRUE is the R logical constant TRUE. If there are more than one of them, they must be collected into a vector using R function c. The value of the dependson chunk option, like all Rmarkdown chunk options, is an R object, thus it has to be valid R syntax. Then the code chunk is rerun whenever what is computed in those “depends on” code chunks change. You can use the dependson argument to tell a cached code chunk what other code chunks it depends on. So they should go in a different code chunk from any code chunks you want to cache. They need to be executed every time Rmarkdown runs. In particular, all calls to R function library should not be in cached code chunks. Never cache a code chunk that has important global side effects. ![]() If the code in the cached code chunk is changed, then it will be rerun.īut caching is dangerous because it does not know when it should rerun the code when something else has changed. ![]() Then they are only run once, the results are saved (in a directory, also called folder, on your computer) and every other time the code chunk is processed the cached results are used (so no computer time is taken redoing the long calculation). When code chunks take a long time to run, the option cache=TRUE can be added to them. ![]() The waters surrounding Paros are crystal clear, making for a great excuse to get out on the water. There is also a handful of hotels if you wish to stay overnight. ![]() You can take the ferry here from Paros, or book a day trip tour. It’s the smallest Island in the cyclades and hosts around 1000 inhabitants. Visit Antiparos Antiparos, GreeceĪntiparos is an island located just 2km from Paros. Stop by for lunch, shopping and people watching. If you’re not coming here for a tour, I recommend visiting for a few hours. It is home to many cute shops and cafes and a beautiful port (from which many day trips leave). Piso Livadi is a small village located south eastern side of Paros. You can see the hours and menu for Siparos here. I recommend making a reservation if you are coming in high season. We were lucky enough the catch the sunset here as well. My fiance’ claims it to be one of the best fish dishes he’s ever eaten. Siparos has a wonderful selection of local drinks (we love craft beer), and the food was phenomenal. Later, I found out that it was actually one of the top restaurants on the island and for good reason. We were looking for the closest restaurant to us and it just happened to be Siparos. We were staying at a near by hotel, and ate at Siparos on accident. I highly recommend visiting Lefkes if you have the chance, we left the village with a very found memory, and a highlight on Paros. When we visited there was no other tourists, the children were playing in the square and we watched the sunset while we drank a glass of house made wine. We found that Lefkes felt like authentic Greece to us. Lefkes is a beautiful town in inland Paros. If you are looking to rent a car I’d recommend checking out BOUNOUS. We visited Piso Livadi, Parikia, and had dinner in Lefkes. We did a self guided tour and visited a lot of the places on this list. I highly recommend driving around the island, whether you rent a car for your whole stay or just one night. It’s also worth mentioning that Greek people eat supper very late, typically around 8-9 (which works for us as its usually when we eat as well), but occasionally even later. Th streets boasts the daily catches, and that, in and of its self, is worth visiting the town for. I recommend strolling around in the the early evening and eating here for supper. Naousa is a beautiful fishing village, with only around 3000 residents. There is also a restaurant on site (although its pretty pricey). If you’re staying at the Surfing Beach Paros (Village/Camping) some rooms will include a chair rental for free (everyday). You can rent a chair at the Santa Maria Beach Bar, and it includes full service. Santa Maria Beach is located on the north east side of the Island. You can rent a beach chair here, as well as eat at a nearby cafe. Golden beach is located on the south eastern part of the island. The top two beaches on Paros are Golden Beach, and Santa Maria Beach. I’d recommend maybe spending and afternoon exploring the whitewashed village of Parikia. As the historic capital on the island, it also serves as a great spot to explore the islands history and charm. Parikia is a town in Paros that is filled with cobblestones streets, churches, shops and beautiful flowers. These shorter ferries are usually around 30 minutes to an hour and cost around €15-30. If you’re coming from surrounding Island like Naxos, you will likely take a ferry. To fly to Paros, you will likely be flying out of Athens. You can also book a cabin in some ferries. Tickets are typically €50 + depending on the day, season and duration of the ferry. The ferry from Athens leaves from Piraeus and is around 3-5 hours. Most flights and ferries will come from Athens but are there some (especially ferries) from surrounding islands. You can either fly or catch a ferry to get to Paros. ![]() Anyone missing family has been faced with a tough choice: (a) skip seeing your parents or grandparents this year, (b) take a health risk and hop on a packed flight, or (c) pack your kids in the car for a multi-day drive. This series was recommended to us by my daughter’s 1st grade teacher and we really enjoyed listening to the series on our road trip a couple summers ago. There are many to choose from so just pick the ones that sound interesting to you, we don’t have any favorites in particular as a family. These are classics in my book and we’ve enjoyed listening to many of the stories on our road trips. The narrator for the Ramona series had an irritating voice which kind of wrecked the listening experience for us even though the stories are really cute and entertaining. I tried these and the classic Ramona series and we ended up enjoying these more because we liked Judy Blume’s voice better as a narrator. I wished I had checked out more from the library. We tried the first 2 books in the series on our recent road trip and really enjoyed both. Surprisingly, again, we have never read these books. Can you tell our family likes mysteries?!? Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing Series This in not really an audiobook but more of an audio drama. You can tell they are from the same makers as there are definite similarities but the mystery in this series held our attention better than Adventures in Odyssey. These are from the makers of Adventures in Odyssey (which we have tried but my kids did not enjoy). What a fun mystery! We can’t wait for the next book to come out! This one, along with Diary of a Wimpy Kid and The Last Chance Detectives, are probably better for ages 7 and up. The library happened to have this one so I requested it and I am SO glad I did. A family member recommended The Mysterious Benedict Society (which we tried to listen to but, although the story seemed interesting, the narrator was really boring) and when I looked for it on Amazon, this one was on there as a recommendation. They are really entertaining and funny! We found the first 3 movies as a box set at Costco and purchased those on our trip as well, so I guess you can say we are now fans of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.” □ The Explorers We had, surprisingly, never read these books but I borrowed the first 2 audiobooks from the library before our last trip and we LOVED the stories. We love these stories because they are quick, interesting, and give you a chance to try to solve the mystery before they tell you the answer. Some utilities are moving away from net metering, and government programs do end. Here's a quick list, from Solar United Neighbors, the US Department of Energy and others, of additional red flags and questionable claims that should prompt you to do some research. "Legitimate companies will answer your questions," McGovern said. Solar sale red flags to avoidĪ pushy salesperson is - besides rude - a sign that their sales pitch might not hold up to scrutiny. If you do sign something you later regret, by law you have three days to cancel most door-to-door sales, according to the US Federal Trade Commission. An installer pushing you to sign before you've read a contract or had all your questions answered is a red flag. It's important to address these issues before a contract is signed and panels are installed on your roof.įor all of these issues, any installer should give you clear answers. Taking panels off to fix the roof likely carries additional costs. For solar to work well, you may need to cut back trees or install panels somewhere other than your roof. If your roof is shaded, make sure an installer has a plan for addressing that. "That's one of the biggest things when anybody wants to consider solar: Is this something that is good for your house?" said McGovern, who added that a solar company had reached out to her about installing solar panels on her completely shaded roof. Still, the low up-front cost of these two options may make solar more available and still save you money in the long run, even if the solar electricity isn't exactly free. You're likely to save more money overall with a purchase than a solar lease or PPA. These are legitimate services and part of the reason residential solar has exploded in the last decade. Though this means you don't pay a large up-front cost for the panels, you will pay monthly to the company that owns them. Likely, it means the product advertised is either a power purchase agreement (PPA) or a solar lease. If you see ads that claim you can put solar panels on your house for free, make sure you understand what "free" means. Typically, there will be a hard deadline for any big change to net metering, and if you have your system installed before that date, you'll receive the older (and often richer) terms. In California, regulators recently changed net metering in the state. ![]() These rates aren't necessarily set in stone. Solar panels installed and operating correctly will reduce the electricity you use and can save you a bunch of money, but the effect on your bill will vary.īefore going solar, be sure you understand how your utility compensates you for the electricity you produce. ![]() Your bill will vary depending on your net metering agreement with your utility, your electricity usage and the base rate utility customers pay to keep up grid infrastructure. If a salesperson says your electricity bill will disappear after installing solar and that you can kick your utility company to the curb, that could also be an exaggeration. Though that isn't proof solar panel scams are widespread (customer satisfaction data isn't widely available), dishonesty happens. It sold expensive solar panels that generated far less energy than promised. One high-profile case of the danger happened in the Detroit area, where customers claimed Pink Solar, then called PowerHome Solar and now bankrupt, made promises its solar panels couldn't deliver. That means more people could be navigating an unfamiliar industry full of unfamiliar companies to save money on energy. While much of that will be utility-scale installations, expanded incentives from the Inflation Reduction Act could have homeowners adopting more solar, too. If you're looking to go solar, whether to lower your energy bill or reduce your reliance on climate-warming fossil fuels, a bit of education can go a long way to getting you a good deal.Įxperts anticipate solar installations will increase by 21% each year on average from 2023 onward. ![]() Shopping for solar panels without a clear understanding of the industry, technology, regulations and incentives puts you on the back foot in conversations with salespeople who may be promising too much. But unlike a car or even a house - things you likely interact with every day - solar panels are a big-ticket item that might feel foreign to most people. Making a big purchase can be a nervy experience. |
